Carrie Marie Underwood (born March 10, 1983) is an American country music singer, songwriter, and actress. She rose to fame as the winner of the fourth season of American Idol in 2005. Underwood has since become a multi-platinum selling recording artist, a winner of six Grammy Awards, sixteen Billboard Music Awards, seven American Music Awards and ten Academy of Country Music Awards, among several others. As a songwriter, she has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. Underwood is also a two-time winner of the Academy of Country MusicEntertainer of the Year award and the first woman to win such an award twice (2009/10). Underwood was inducted into and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2008. She was also inducted into the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame in 2009.[2]
Her debut album, Some Hearts, was released in 2005. Buoyed by the huge crossover success of the singles "Before He Cheats" and "Jesus, Take the Wheel", it went on to become the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history, the best-selling solo female debut album in country music history and the best-selling country album of the last 10 years. Underwood won three Grammy Awards for the album, including Best New Artist. Her second album,Carnival Ride, was released in 2007, with one of the biggest opening weeks by a female artist in history, and later earned Underwood two Grammy Awards, for the singles "Last Name" and "I Told You So". Released in 2009, her third album, Play On, was led by the success of its first single, "Cowboy Casanova", and was ranked the second top-selling release of that year by a female artist. 2012's Blown Away, her fourth album, quickly became the second best-selling release by a female artist in the year. She won a Grammy Award for the album's song "Blown Away". With her strong album and single sales, and $100 million in tour revenues, Underwood is the biggest American Idol earner and the fourth biggest album seller of the past ten years. Worldwide, she has sold nearly 30 million singles and more than 15 million albums.
Described by music critics, such as Billboard 's,[3] as Country Music's reigning Queen, Underwood is the only solo country artist to have a number one hit on Billboard Hot 100 Songs in the 2000 decade, as "Inside Your Heaven" reached the top of the chart in 2005. She is also the female country artist with the most number one hits on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, from 1991 to present, having 12 No. 1s and breaking her own Guinness Book record of ten, which was co-held with Reba McEntire.[4][5] Some Heartswas named the Best Country Album of the 2000 Decade by Billboard and she was the top-ranked female artist on Billboard's Best Country Artists of the 2000 Decade list.[6][7]

Desde então, tornou-se uma multi-platinada cantora, um membro do Grand Ole Opry, emplacou 13 singles em #1 na Billboard (sendo 11 na Hot Country Songs e 1 na Hot 100 Songs); e acumula vários prêmios, dentre eles: 6 Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, 11 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, 6 People's Choice Awards e 7 American Music Awards. Ela é a primeira mulher na História da Country Music a ganhar duas vezes o prêmio de Entertainer of the Year no ACM Awards (2009/ 2010).3
Seu álbum de estreia, Some Hearts, vendeu 8 milhões cópias no mundo, sendo 7x certificado com Platina nos Estados Unidos. American Idol

No verão de 2004, foi a uma audição do mundialmente famoso programa americano de novos talentos, o American Idol, em St. Louis; passou e entrou na competição. Em 22 de março de 2005, cantou uma grande música, um hit dos anos 80, "Alone", de Heart e o jurado Simon Cowell previu que ela não apenas ganharia o programa, como passaria todos os vencedores do programa. Foi a segunda vencedora que nunca ficou entre os três menos votados.
No dia 25 de maio de 2005, foi coroada a vencedora da quarta temporada do programa, ganhando de Bo Bice.15

Aparições no programa após a vitória

Na sexta temporada, foi para cantar o último single de seu CD Some Hearts, "Wasted". Essa foi a quarta vez que aparecia no programa depois de sua vitória. Também performou no evento Idol Gives Back, cantando "I'll Stand By You", no mesmo evento, Kelly Clarkson e Rascal Flatts fizeram performances. Underwood cantou a mesma música na final, dia 23 de maio de 2007.

Na final da sétima temporada do programa, em 2008, cantou seu hit "Last Name".
No evento Idol Gives Back de 2010, Carrie cantou sua poderosa balada "Change", sendo aplaudida de pé pela platéia.
No American Idol de 2010, Carrie também performou na final, cantando "Undo It".
No Final do American Idol 2011, fez um dueto do seu hit "Before He Cheats" com a finalista Lauren Alaina. Após tal performance, "Carrie Underwood" foi o 4º assunto mais comentado (Trending Topics, TTs) no mundo no twitter, atrás apenas de 3 hashtags. Carrie Underwood Donates $1 Million to Red Cross for Oklahoma Tornado Relief

This week's tornado in Oklahoma hit close to home for Carrie Underwood.
The Sooner State native has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help with relief efforts.
"I have watched the devastation in my home state of Oklahoma over the past several days with great sadness," Underwood said in a statement. "With the help of my fans who attended my concerts over the past year, we can offer the Red Cross a little extra help in comforting those affected by the recent tornados."
Neal Litvack, chief development officer for the Red Cross, said, "The impact of the tornados in Oklahoma and the Midwest was devastating and the road to recovery will be long for many families. Through the generosity of Carrie, the American Red Cross can quickly respond with shelter, food and comfort now, and with lasting help as they move toward recovery."
Particularly large checks have also come from Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant, who pledged $1 million, and funnyman David Spade, who donated $200,000 to the cause.

Tornado esta semana em Oklahoma bateu perto de casa por Carrie Underwood.
A nativa do Estado doou US $ 1 milhão para a Cruz Vermelha Americana para ajudar os esforços de socorro.
